The breakthrough season of Tim Foy Jr. continued on Wednesday at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

Foy led the PBA Scorpion Championship field through 12 games of qualifying on the 44-foot Scorpion oil pattern. He averaged more than 240 to tally a total pinfall of 2,891 (+491), pacing the 201-player field in the first title event of the World Series of Bowling (WSOB) XVI.

The Delaware native said this is the first cut he’s ever made at the WSOB, adding that his success is all part of the learning process that has led him to this breakout season.

Foy had made only one televised championship round before this season. He has already made three in 2025 and is one match victory away from a fourth.

“Years ago, if I had a good game I would be feeling good, but then the minute my look starts to go away, or I have one or two bad shots, or a pair that just doesn't look right, I always hit the panic button,” Foy said. “Now I’ve got the confidence to be like, ‘All right, it's a bad pair. I have been here. I know what to do. I can find my way through. I can navigate my way.”

Foy along with BJ Moore, Jason Belmonte, Rafiq Ismail, Cam Crowe, Trevor Roberts, Matt Ogle and EJ Tackett earned a bye to the Round of 16.

The ninth through 24th qualifiers competed in the Round of 24 on Wednesday night. All elimination bracket matches the best-of-five games.

The Rounds of 16 and 8 will take place on Sunday, March 16. The winners of each bracket and the highest-seeded loser in the Round of 8 will advance to the championship round that day at 4 p.m. PT (7 p.m. ET) on FS1.

Qualifying begins for the PBA Viper Championship on Thursday. B-squad takes the lanes at 9 a.m. PT (12 p.m. ET) followed by A-squad at 2:30 p.m. PT (5:30 p.m. ET).

Qualifying scores from the PBA Scorpion, Viper, Chameleon and Shark Championships combine for the PBA World Championship.

All rounds of PBA WSOB XVI qualifying and match play will be livestreamed on BowlTV.
