Anderson Leads U.S. Open Through Two Rounds of Qualifying
After a solid, top-16 finish in the season-opening PBA Delaware Classic, Andrew Anderson leads the 2025 U.S. Open presented by Go Bowling through two rounds of qualifying.
Anderson has accumulated a total pinfall of 3,609 (+409), leading the 108-player major championship field through 16 games.
After starting with games of 194, 180 and 191, Anderson averaged 236 over his final five games during Wednesday’s second qualifying round.
“What a day,” Anderson said. “Being -35 after three games, I said to myself to get back to even. To think that I was going to get to +145 is mind blowing. Yesterday felt like eight games; today felt like 12. The spare ball was used a lot today. I’m happy with my performance.”
Anthony Simonsen, Zach Weidman, Kris Prather and AJ Johnson round out the top five after the second round on the flat, 37-foot pattern.
Anderson said his key has been embracing the challenge that the U.S. Open always presents.
“When you're throwing the ball well and not knocking over pins, you start to get into a telephone booth. Is it the ball or is it the bowler?” Anderson said. “I'm trying to do a really good job of not blaming myself. That way, when I do find some ball motion, I'm able to repeat at a high level.”
Defending champion Kyle Troup with a total pinfall of 3,397 (+297) ranks 17th while Nathan Bohr, sitting at 3,355 (+155) occupies 24th place, which will be the cut position after Thursday’s final round of qualifying.
Qualifying concludes with a 52-foot oil pattern.
“I think Thursday could be the most confusing day, especially as people are chasing the number and looking for score,” Anderson said. “It really depends on if the squad decides to play to the right or to the left. That's going to dictate everything.”
C-squad takes the lanes at 8 a.m. Eastern, followed by A-squad at 1 p.m. and B-squad at 6 p.m.
All qualifying and match play rounds will be livestreamed on BowlTV.
