Las Vegas, Nevada – Jack Jurek came out firing strikes Friday morning at Sam’s Town Bowling Center. The right-hander shot 279, 225, 290, 300, 223 and 218, averaging 255.83 on the day for a two-day qualifying total of 2,915.

“That was probably the best four-game block I’ve ever had. Boy, that was a lot of fun striking that much,” Jurek said, after averaging 273.5 over four games. “There is something about this bowling center. I’ve bowled here a few times. I’ve always had pretty good luck.”

Jurek was the No. 1 seed in the stepladder finals during last year’s Super Senior Classic, ultimately finishing in second to John Marsala. Walking into Sam’s Town Bowling Center, he was comfortable on the lanes and his mindset was in a good place coming off a confident performance at the PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open held last week in Clearwater, Florida. He felt that was the best he has been throwing the ball on tour this season.

“I have been trending in a good direction the last few weeks, so my personal confidence level was building a little bit. Coming to a place here that I have had success in the past adds to that a little bit,” he said. “You kind of just go on autopilot for a little bit. The hardest part was the last two games not to think too much.”

Jurek felt bowling on the fresh oil pattern looked pretty much the same as how the lanes played during Wednesday’s practice session. He stuck with one ball for the first five games and capitalized on his phenomenal carry percentage. He knows there is still a lot of bowling to go, and he is happy with the way his tournament has started.

Jurek is 13 pins ahead of Pete McCordic. Ken Fox is in third place followed by Skip Pavone, who rolled the fifth 300 game of the tournament. John Conroy is in fifth place. After the completion of qualifying, 52 players made the cut. Daniel Inocencio was the final bowler in at +202.

On Saturday, they will bowl six games in the cashers’ round starting at noon Eastern. The top 12 will then bowl six games of match play beginning at 6 p.m. ET with the remaining players split into two groups. The odds seeds (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11) will be in Group 1 and the even seeds (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12) will be in Group 2. On Sunday, group stepladders will start at noon ET with the stepladder finals scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET. Watch the rest of the tournament play out only on BowlTV.
