Las Vegas, Nevada – John Janawicz is still No. 1 after Friday’s first day of match play at the 2024 USBC Senior Masters. He won his first match by 122 pins and then got past No. 33 seed Parker Bohn III 729-707 to remain one of 16 bowlers still in the winner’s bracket.

Janawicz is on the left side of the bracket drawing an opening day match Saturday against No. 49 Joseph Losurdo. The biggest upset on the day came on the right side of the bracket as No. 62 seed Sam Ventura rolled a 299 in his third game against No. 3 Dan Knowlton, while a fire alarm was going off inside Sam’s Town Bowling Center. That didn’t shake Ventura as he stepped up and delivered his first strike in the 10th to secure the win and he roared to the crowd’s delight. After the 709-675 victory, Ventura won his next match by 56 pins, and he remains the lowest seeded player alive in the winner’s bracket.

There are 16 players in the contender’s elimination bracket. All remaining bowlers will take to the lanes starting at noon Eastern on Saturday. All bracket matches are three-games total-pinfall with the winner’s advancing until the top five are determined for the stepladder finals that will take place 1 p.m. Eastern on Sunday. You can watch all of the action only on BowlTV.
