Columbus, Ohio – Lennie Boresch Jr. has battled the pins for decades earning his place in the USBC and PBA Halls of Fame. His attitude and perspective on the lanes have changed over the past year battling kidney failure and now Small Cell Carcinoma on his prostate. His tireless fight on and off the lanes provided a gratifying feeling Wednesday as he earned the day one qualifying lead at the 2024 PBA60 Tristan’s T.A.P.S. Memorial Open.

“I went to the doctor Tuesday and wasn’t sure if I was going to be here or not. I had another scan and some of the cancer disappeared but some of it got a little larger, a couple of lymph nodes, so we are going to do some radiation treatment in the next week or so," he said. "It came out better than I thought, so I am here. It could be my last tournament of the year, so we are going to give it a good shot.”

While bowling through pain and discomfort, the Wisconsin native trusted his delivery a little bit to the right the first couple of games resulting in games of 194, 229 and 221. As the lanes inside Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl transitioned, it fit his game better. He was able to play a little straighter, trusting it to the left as he squared up going more down and in. He finished with 225, 237, 279 and 269 for 1,654, averaging 236.29. Last year, Boresch finished in second place at this tournament to Walter Ray Williams Jr. who is currently in third place. Between them is Christopher Keane at +217. In fourth is Jerry Sikora followed by Jay Davis Jr in fifth at +183.

Overall, Boresch Jr. feels great about his start, and he is thrilled his daughter, Lauren, was able to make the trip with him. When his health scares came to the front, he still made a goal to bowl the PBA60 tournaments, especially this event hosted by longtime friends Wayne Webb, and Linda and Tom Carter. Wayne’s son, Tristan served in the military and Boresch Jr. is glad he can show his support.

“I am just happy to be here,” he said. “I am more relaxed and maybe that helped my game. I appreciate everything, as tomorrow is not promised to any of us.”

The B-squad will get things started at 10 a.m. Eastern on Thursday followed by the A-squad at 4 p.m. ET. At the end of qualifying, the top 24 players will advance to bracket match play on Friday. Watch all of the action only on BowlTV.
