HAMPTON, VA. – Kip Roberts of Glen Allen, Va. defeated Charlie Toney of Oak Hill, W.Va., 238-209, in the final match to take the first prize in the PBA50 Ed Tenan Memorial South Open at SpareTimes Fun Center on Sunday. This was Kips first PBA50 Regional win and 16th overall PBA Regional title.

Roberts started the title match with five consecutive strikes, while Toney struggled with an early open in the second frame. Roberts stayed clean throughout the rest of the game and cruised his way to victory. Roberts won $2,000 for first place and Toney pocketed $1,000 as the runner-up.

In the semifinal round, Roberts defeated Dave Bowers of Knoxville, Tenn., 193-158, while Toney disposed of Roy Davis of Lumberton, N.C., 191-166.

The PBA50 Ed Tenan Memorial Open is named after Ed Tenan, who passed away in 2020 due to covid complications. He was a South Region PBA member with one PBA Regional title. Ed served in the US Army and bowled regularly on the PBA Regional and PBA50 National Tour.

Tenan’s wife Cathy and son Travis, presented the champion trophy and check in honor of Ed. The event was sponsored by the PBA Booster Club of Hampton Roads, Va.

The tournament drew 50 players, all 50-year-old or more. The PBA South Region’s next tournament will be the AMF Williamsburg PBA Jr. Open August 14 - 15, 2021 in Williamsburg, Va.
