In a departure from traditional ESPN telecasts of the PBA Tour, this Sunday’s taped telecast of the PBA Cheetah Championship from Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich., will be aired in a documentary-style format at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Fans will get a first-ever behind-the-scenes look at an entire PBA Tour event, from the start of qualifying to the championship match with highlights from every round of competition throughout the tournament, player interviews and other special features.

A traditional Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour “finals” telecast features only the top four or five competitors competing for the title in either a stepladder or match play elimination format. Normally, the only thing viewers see is the culmination of a four-day long event that includes 64-72 of the world’s greatest bowlers competing in qualifying and match play competition for the opportunity to bowl for the title on TV.
“There is so much action and drama throughout every PBA Tour event that has never made it to television,” said PBA Deputy Commissioner Tom Clark. “With Sunday’s show, we are able to tell the full story of the PBA World Series of Bowling’s Cheetah Championship from start to finish. Fans will have an all-access pass, including unprecedented glimpses into the thought processes of the greatest bowlers in the world at the height of competition.”
Another first for this telecast will be a championship decided in a best-of-seven games match.
The four players who advance to the championship round are Hall of Famer Norm Duke, Ryan Ciminelli, Derek Sapp and Stevie Weber.
