Steve Westberg notched his second title in three weeks when he won the $6,000 first prize in the $60,000 Sarasota Open, final event on the Summer Tour. Veteran Carmen Salvino led the 18-game qualifying with a 228 average, but Surrendered the lead to Westberg after the fifth game of match play. Westberg continued to set the pace and outdistanced runnerup Tommy Hudson by 118 pins despite a 217-216 loss to the latter in the position round. "I really wanted this one," Westberg said. "When I won the Great Adventure Open two weeks ago some people thought I had lucked out. I hope I proved something to them by winning again." Westberg posted a 19-5 match play record, the best of the 24 finalists, and averaged 223 over the 42-game grind.
