Young Gun Wins it For Young One

Wes Malott won one for the “Young Guns” Sunday, as well as a young one close to his heart. The 30-year-old won his second career Denny’s PBA Tour title, defeating top-seed Chris Barnes, 269-239, to win the 2006 Discover® Card Windy City Classic at Hawthorn Lanes.

If anyone feels comfortable trying to break a nearly two-year losing streak for top seeds in stepladder finals, it’s Chris Barnes who was the last top seed to win a title when he won the 62nd U.S. Open, 213-212, over Patrick Allen.

Jack Jurek was already well on his way to having the best season of his 21-year Denny’s PBA Tour career, and it just keeps getting better. The 43-year-old went 6-3 in round robin match play Friday to take the overall lead heading into the final nine games of match play.

Though he finally lost a game in match play, Norm Duke continued his hot streak Friday, going 6-3 in round robin match play to move into second after the Round of 32. After setting a Tour record by going 14-0 last week, Duke is chasing another Denny's PBA Tour record this week.
