Stories abound about Joe Richards, whose death in 1974 saddened legions of bowling fans and bowlers from coast-to-coast. He was known to millions of television bowling fans as the "man with the cigar" and befriended the PBA from its very beginning from his position as bowling editor of the New York Daily News and before that the New York Mirror. He was 81 when he died.
